J.K. Rowling's award-winning play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" has been gracing the London's Palace Theatre since its premiere in July. The play jumps 19 years after Hogwarts Battle and specifically highlights segments on the adventures of Harry Potter's son, Albus.
Rumors about the West End play hitting the silver screens have been circulating in the news but there remains no confirmation as of now. However, good news awaits Harry Potter fans in the U.S. as Rowling's official website, Pottermore, made a big announcement about the play.
It was announced that plans for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" opening on Broadway are already laid out. Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender are expected to bring a totally transformed Lyric Theatre in New York in the spring of 2018.
Plans of the producers along with Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) on the huge multi-million-dollar transformation are already in its final stages. Their creative team has already been looking around the most beautiful theatres in New York since September.
Grand plans of remodelling and reconfiguring The Lyric Theatre from a 1,900 seat theatre into a 1,500 seat auditorium is designed to add up to the play's intimate and dramatic look. Designer Christine Jones and director John Tiffany are teaming up to provide a new aesthetic from the play's London version.
"It's an incredibly unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The hope is that this theatre will have its own soul and its own identity, very much a New York theatre from the period and not just a recreation of what was made in London," Jones stated.
Although there are no specifics yet about the premiere date or where tickets are to be sold, Potterheads can now be at ease knowing that another version of the "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" play is already on its way to Broadway. Everyone should prepare for a magical creation from the author of the much-loved fantasy series "Harry Potter."
