The NBA trade rumors have been headlining the Golden State Warriors' shooting guard, Klay Thompson, ever since Kevin Durant joined the roster of this 2016-2017 NBA season's biggest championship contender. While the Warriors are playing perfectly well in their past games, some of its players are apparently not happy with their strategy.
The Warriors have always been playing as a team not until Durant stepped in the Western Con's top bet for the championship trophy. The Splash Brothers, Thompson and Curry, even made name for their great team-up with the support of another superstar, Draymond Green. In the past games of the Warriors, it was quite clear that Durant has been making strategies on his own which might be forgivable since his stints obviously paid off with the 17 wins and 3 losses record of the team.
Durant is dominating the Warriors and Thompson is seemingly not pleased as rumors are persistent with claims that the two-time NBA All-Star player is on the verge of splitting up with his team.
Thompson's role in the court strategy of the Warriors has diminished as the spotlight is now on Durant. The 26-year-old shooting guard has even been reportedly underperforming as he has been missing his shots which was not the case last season. Thompson is currently averaging only 20.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. The Warriors' superstar who seems untouchable is then suggested to flee his team and head onto a roster where he can once again bring out the impeccable player in him.
Although coach Steve Kerr has previously debunked trade rumors regarding Thompson, NBA analysts suggest that the possibility of seeing the superstar heading to another team before the February trade deadline should not be ruled out.
While the Warriors already managed to cement their spot on the top of the current NBA season, other teams are targeting the GSW's weak spot that Durant's addition has created. With the Splash Brothers not performing at their best which was all the hype last season, coach Kerr might actually send someone from his roster to give Durant the space he needs to carry the team to the finals. It has also been said that Thompson might be fine if ever such decision comes up since the younger player is said to be on the lookout for a team where his talents won't be overshadowed.
While this is the case with the GSW lineup, a team from the Eastern Con has been constantly mentioned on numerous Thompson trade rumors. The Boston Celtics are reportedly interested in the shooting guard and will soon make moves to acquire Thompson on the February trade deadline.
With the Celtics looking to improve its defense, noting its rim protection play, Thompson is said to be the best player they can get to do such role for the team. The latest trade scenario to surface then suggests Thompson to sign with the Celtics while they send off Jae Crowder to the Bulls in order for the team to send Jimmy Butler along with the first-round draft of the Celtics to fill up the position that Thompson will leave.
The suggestion, like other speculations, has not yet been confirmed, but if it materializes, it is said to benefit each team, including Thompson's currently pained career.
