Nina Dobrev's Return On "The Vampire Diaries" Not Final; Julie Plec Writes Alternative Ending Just In Case
"The Vampire Diaries" is currently airing its eighth and final season, and up until now, the fans are still hoping to see Nina Dobrev back on Mystic Falls again. Even though many prefer that she returns as her protagonist role in the series before she left, Elena Gilbert, there are other options. She may return as the adored villain, her character's doppleganger Katherine Pierce or the original among all of them, Tatia. However, many have been wishing that for her return, she gives closer to her character as Elena and her love for Damon (Ian Somerhalder).
Dobrev is now currently busy promoting her film with Vin Diesel, "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" thus might be too hard for her to find time and fly to Atlanta to film for her return in "The Vampire Diaries" season eight. It has been previously revealed by executive producer Julie Plec that both she and the actress are open and interested for Dobrev to return for the series finale. They are simply working out their schedules to have the actress film her scenes. Regardless if Dobrev goes to have the time to return to the series, Plec has already prepared an alternative ending without having her return.
Nina Dobrev Finally Answers Questions About her Returning For The Finale Of "The Vampire Diaries"

Nevertheless, the fans will have to wait for official confirmation on the return of Nina Dobrev in the show.
