Disney has just announced what seemed to be the greatest unexpected gift any kids and kids at heart would want this holiday season. The studio has revealed that it will be returning “DuckTales” to television soon. It will not just be a rerun but a revival of the said animated television show.
People who grew up watching these series, who are most likely full-grown adults now, will be thrilled to find out that the reboot will still star the same characters. Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are coming back as the stars of the show. Entertainment Weekly revealed a new “DuckTales” teaser and the four aforementioned characters will be joined by Donald, Webby, and Launchpad McQuack.
Disney has announced that the reboot series will premiere in Summer 2017. With the series returning, many are also hoping that Disney will revive “Darkwing Duck”, another animated series based on the Duck Universe and which Launchpad McQuack starred in. Tad Stones, the creator of “Darkwing Duck” said that the two said series had different timelines though Launchpad McQuack was in it but Stones did not reveal whether or not “Darkwing Duck” will also be making a comeback.
“Ducktales” is an American animated series created by Walt Disney Television Animation. It premiered on television in September 1987 and finally ended its run in November 1990. The said series had aired four seasons and 100 episodes. To this day, the series is still being aired as reruns on various foreign networks.
The animated series is actually based on the comics called “Uncle Scrooge” and other Duck universe comic series created by Carl Barks. Aside from an animated series adaptation, the comics have also spawned other productions. The spin-off movie, “Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp “ was released in the US in August 1990.
Video games were also developed based on “Ducktales” decades ago. In December 1990, “DuckTales: The Quest for Gold” was released as a single player action game for Windows, Mac OS 8, and other early platforms. Another video game simply named “DuckTales”, this time developed and published by Capcom, was released in 1989 for Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy.
