Professional wrestler and actor John Cena is headed to "Saturday Night Live" this weekend! A preview uploaded by WWE revealed the news on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Complete with a championship belt and his WWE theme, Cena made a bold declaration to the "Saturday Night Live" cast.
"I'm going to destroy the Saturday Night Live cast!" Cena said at the stage of Studio 8H. It looks like the wrestler is not afraid of anyone -- well except Leslie Jones. He joked that he doesn't want to trouble her. "Except for Leslie," he added as the music halted. "I don't want any trouble. I think you're great. That wasn't meant for you."
Cena will make his hosting debut on "Saturday Night Live" season 42, episode 9 on Saturday, Dec. 10 alongside guest singer Maren Morris. Meanwhile, Casey Affleck will also be hosting the show for the first time on Dec. 17 with recurring guest, Chance the Rapper.
The "Trainwreck" actor has guested in "Saturday Night Live" season 34, but his upcoming appearance as host will be a far greater challenge. It would be interesting to see how he would convert his tough-guy image, with his bulky and large built (his height is 6'1"), to goofy comedy. Nevertheless, this is a treat for all wrestling fans.
In another video posted by WWE, Cena said that he is nervous about the hosting gig. "I'm nervous because it's a different type of life performance," the wrestler shared. It will be a night and day difference from his cool attitude and display of overwhelming strength in WWE ring so fans can expect to see a different side of John Cena.
Cena added that there are a lot of well-wishers saying the show will be fun but he admitted that he is still nervous. He said he just wants to make people laugh. Cena added that he's used to performing in front of an audience that he considers his family and no matter what the reaction is, it feels comfortable.
However, despite being nervous, Cena said that he is also excited. "Don't get me wrong, I'm excited, I'm always excited to do anything... I commit to do it, I'm fully invested in being here," he said. He added that he is nervous before every WWE event, and also excited at the same time. The wrestler said anyone that has seen him in person will know his nervousness will go away when he comes out.
Cena also stated that hosting "Saturday Night Live" is something he wants to do again. "It's an honor, it's something I want to do again," he said before shouting out to the "Saturday Night Live" production.
John Cena is currently on hiatus from WWE due to the filming of "American Grit" where he is a host and executive producer. He is also scheduled to appear in 2017 American war film, "The Wall," about two American "soldiers" trapped by an Iraqi sniper and "The Pact" also in 2017. A previous report suggests Cena might return to WWE on Dec. 26 for the WWE Live Holiday Tour.
