After a very long wait, 20 years to be exact, Renault has finally made an announcement for a new and premier edition of their once famous Alpine brand. The French company has announced that they will be releasing the new Renault Alpine Premier Edition and that interested buyers can make an early reservation. Renault has not provided specific details yet, but here's what we know so far:
No Engine Details Have Been Revealed Yet
Renault has not provided what type of engine or what the displacement size is yet, however, they mentioned that the new Premier Edition is capable of hitting zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.5 seconds. That number should put the new car somewhere in between the Porsche Cayman and the Porsche Cayman S that puts out 220 kilowatts, or around 295 horsepower. It can also be capable of beating an Alfa Romeo 4c Coupe that is fitted with a carbon fiber body. Renault has not specified yet whether the new Alpine Premier's engine will be charged with a turbo or if it will be getting a six-speed automatic dual clutch transmission, but we do know that this model will be fitted in a lightweight body.
Pre-Orders By Smart Phone App
Interested buyers of the Renault Alpine Premier edition will can pre-order using a smartphone app with a €2,000 euro deposit. The buyers would be able to choose if they want the car to have a blue, white or black finish by using the smartphone app. A unique number will then be displayed on a dashboard-mounted plaque. The app, unfortunately, will not be available for all interested buyers, and may only be accessible by buyers in the United Kingdom, and some other countries.
Slow And Steady Pace
Even after waiting for so long, Renault does not intend to compete against Ford Focus or Toyota's GT86 in terms of sales. The company still believes in the "slow and steady wins the race" method. "The interest that the announcement of Alpine's return has prevailed around the world inspired us to offer sports car enthusiasts and Alpine fans early chance to schedule the new vehicle. The Premier Edition variations of the new model will be the first to come off the line, and we wanted to allow Alpine fans to pick the number of their car," said Michael van der Sande, Alpine's managing director.
