This might be one of the saddest day in the history of sports as the legendary sideline NBA Reporter Craig Sager died. The colorful and funny correspondent of Turner Network Television loses his battle with leukemia.
Craig Sager Is A Legend
I’m shocked when I heard the news about Craig Sager’s death. No disrespect to other sideline NBA reporters but Craig Sager was on another level. He can light up the TV screen with his simple gestures, questions and his colorful suits which became his trademark. Craig Sager’s work ethic is second to none. It was fully documented that Craig Sager was never late in his day job for more than three decades. During his first transplant, Craig Sager went back and do what he does best. Fans cheered and roared when they saw the enigmatic Craig Sager. We thought that he was getting better, but it wasn’t the case.
Craig Sager was very open about his condition and he was not showing any signs of slowing down. When Sager received the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award at the ESPY Awards he provided us a retrospective of his life. “Time is something that cannot be bought, it cannot be wagered with God, and it is not in endless supply. Time is simply how you live your life.”
“I am not an expert on time or on cancer or on life itself. I’m a kid from the small Illinois town of Potamia who grew up on the Chicago Cubs and made sports his life’s work, although there’s never been a day when it actually seemed like work. I will never give up, and I will never give in. I will continue to keep fighting, sucking the marrow out of life, as life sucks the marrow out of me. I will live my life full of love and full of fun. It’s the only way I know how,” Sager stated.
TNT Family Will Never Be The Same
Craig Sager is TNT. That’s the simplest way to describe this wonderful human being. The President of the company laments Sager’s death, and here’s the full excerpt of his press conference. “Craig Sager was a beloved member of the Turner family for more than three decades and he has been a true inspiration to all of us,” Turner president David Levy said in a statement. “There will never be another Craig Sager. His incredible talent, tireless work ethic and commitment to his craft took him all over the world covering sports.
“While he will be remembered fondly for his colorful attire and the TNT sideline interviews he conducted with NBA coaches and players, it’s the determination, grace and will to live he displayed during his battle with cancer that will be his lasting impact. Our thoughts and prayers are with Craig’s wife, Stacy, and the entire Sager family during this difficult time. We will forever be Sager Strong.”
Craig Sager might be gone but we are pretty sure he is in a better place. Everybody can do sideline report and wear colorful suits, but they will never ever be, Craig Sager. Rest In Peace Mr. Sager.
