For the first time in her 25 years' showbiz career, Hollywood superstar and America's darling Julia Roberts will star in her own produced TV show. As per Variety, Roberts signed a deal to star in a limited TV series constructed on the best-selling novel Today Will Be Different authored by Maria Semple.
Roberts will perform the role of Eleonor Flood. In the storyline, she is enforced to abandon her dreams, goals and be stirred to an odd, new future. Inside bases reveal that the comedy series script will be kept by no less than the book's author, Maria Semple.
Semple's works will be recalled by fans for the judgmentally acclaimed Suddenly Susan which starred Brooke Shields, Mad About You head the cast Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser, and Arrested Development. But Roberts will not only be the A-Star in her own show, she's also going to be the executive producer.
Fans Dismayed with 'Limited' Episodes
Fans were upset to note that it will only be a 'limited series'. Frequently a full season has 22 episodes at the minimum, while limited her series run between 10-15 episodes. But just because there's a limited number of episodes per season doesn't mean it won't do well. There's Orange is the New Black and American Crime which are big hits. So, it will all depend on the viewers' reception of Roberts.
Bluntly though, there's really nothing to worry about. Robert's appeal and magnetism have been proven and tested over the years. She was very positive as a romantic love interest back in the 80s and 90s. My Best Friend's Wedding and Notting Hill were major runaway success successes. But it was her role in Erin Brockovich in which she finally hand-held an Oscar for Best Actress. She also got a Golden Globe award, not to mention it is a critical acclamation.
From Film to Television Transition
Departed are the days when actors who shift from film to TV series are branded as failures. Particularly now that streaming services and on-demand competence are on the rise. But for big shot whose net worth is at $140 million, the word accomplishment is easier to visualize than failure.
