Blizzard Working On New Overwatch Heroes Already, But There's A Catch

Almost all players will agree that Overwatch has an interesting line-up of characters. Add to that the fact that each of these heroes offer a unique mix of personality and skills. Heck, they're so interesting that the community wants a movie to be made (thanks to you, animated shorts). And in between those lines, there's that longing for new characters to arrive.

According to Polygon, it was the game director himself Jeff Kaplan who teased the possibilities and whatnots of an upcoming update over YouTube. In the course of 12 minutes, he explained what 2017 will bring to the table for the hit multiplayer first-person shooter game. Apparently, among these is the arrival of new sets of heroes.

Kaplan iterated that among their goals next year is to release more Overwatch characters. These should also include the likes of brand new maps and modes. In fact, he admitted that all of these are in "progress" already. But sadly, releasing these heroes isn't an easy task to do.

The game director noted that their formula has always been about working contents first -- whether or not they get released. It's through this process that they're able to prototype things, though more often than not it fails. And if so, it's either they scrap it all out or they go back straight "to the drawing board." And yes, this is exactly how they develop new characters, too.

Kaplan said that there's no definite timeline as to when these new Overwatch heroes will arrive. At least for now, it's good to know that they're looking at 2017 to be the release window. It's also worth noting that the release of Sombra, although successful, wasn't really a nice ride for the community. So, one can expect Blizzard to be very cautious and picky this time.

Before the year ends, the studio unleashed the much awaited Winter update. A new kind of comics (based on the game, of course), was also released. Surprisingly, iintroduced a quite familiar hero whose real identity was unearthed. She's no other than Tracer, who is the game's first LGBT character.

What are your thoughts on Overwatch having more heroes in the future? What sort of character do you want to see? Any expectations or suggestions you might want to share? Let us know at the comment section below!
