Microsoft has already given fans and tech junkies some solid ideas on what the upcoming Xbox Scorpio will bring to the table when it comes to performance and overall power. But the one thing that we don't know yet, and would probably be the most important factor if whether the Xbox Scorpio will be a success, is the price.
However, according to high-profile analyst Michael Pachter, the Xbox Scorpio's price will be set at $399 when it officially launches during the holiday season of 2017.
A lot of estimates have been made
There have been various predictions and estimations that were thrown around with regards to the Xbox Scorpio's price, with some predicting that the Scorpio will be sold at around the $500 mark, while others believe that Microsoft will be opting for a lower price tag in order to make it competitive against rival Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro.
Will it be enough?
Speaking directly towards GamesIndustry.biz about his predictions for 2017, Pachter stated that the Xbox Scorpio is definitely going to be priced at $399. However, he feels that Microsoft's already reasonable price tag may still not be low enough for it to compete against Sony, who he says could very well lower the price of the PS4 Pro again, which could potentially put Microsoft in a rough situation.
Sony will look to make things complicated
"This might not be low enough, especially if the PS4 Pro drops before the holidays of 2017, but Microsoft still has to price competitively or fall farther behind," Pachter said. He also went on to add that the price of the PS4 might drop below $200, as Sony looks to secure their lead over Microsoft.
Michael Pachter's prediction that the Xbox Scorpio will be priced at $399 makes sense, as it would then fall in line with comments made by Xbox's Phil Spencer earlier this month when he stated that Microsoft intends to launch the Scorpio at a "console price-point".
