Fans and enthusiasts were pretty much disappointed when Apple seemingly ignored its desktop computer, the iMac, this year as was unable to provide any updates during their most recent October Event, where it highlighted the arrival of the new the MacBook Pro. In order to counter this already growing perception, Apple CEO Tim Cook has recently issued a message to the company's employees, stating that they definitely have not abandoned their desktop lineup.
Cook assures company is focused on iMac
"Some folks in the media have raised multiple questions regarding whether we're committed to our desktop lines. If there's ever any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that," Apparently, Cook wrote the message conveyed above in a post on an employee message board.
iMacs are an integral part of Apple's success
Cook insists that the desktop still continues to be an important and integral product for Apple because unlike their notebooks, they have the capability to equip it with many more performance upgrades, memory and storage enhancements. He also stated that a lot of people are still using the iMac desktops, so there is no reason for them not to continue and focus on their iMac.
Cook still proud of the current iMac
Even though the current generation iMac has not been updated for nearly 2 years now, Tim Cook still remains proud of the product, calling it "the best and most reliable desktop that Apple has ever made," as well as saying that its Retina 5K display screen is the best in the world.
The upcoming iMac 2017
According to several reports, Apple is expected to release the all new iMac 2017 next year. This new iteration of the iMac comes with USB Type-C ports and amazingly powerful graphics cards from AMD. The Cupertino-based tech giant is also set to reveal a 27-inch standalone external 5K Display screen called the Cinema Display.
About Cinema Display
According to several reports, it is going to be an enhanced version of the 5K display, which will offer some more vivid and vibrant colors, as well as deliver some astounding graphical output. With this incorporation, the upcoming iMac 2017 is going to be one of the most powerful desktops that will be available on the market next year.
Potential processors for the iMac 2017
Aside from the powerful Cinema Display that the iMac will already be incorporating, the iMac 2017 is also rumored to be powered by Intel's 7th-generation Kaby Lake processors. But recent reports have also suggested that Apple could be equipping it with the 6th-generation Skylake instead, or even possibly Intel's upcoming Xeon processor, which is currently being designed for workstations and servers.
Regardless of which one turns out to be true, all are considered as significant upgrades over the current generation's Broadwell chip.
Potential release
Based on the predictions of KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next-generation iMac 2017 desktop computer will arrive in the first half of 2017.
