Is Super Mario Sexist? New York Times Says, Yes!

Super Mario Run is said to have flooded most iOS devices being downloaded a total of 37 million times in the first three days of its launch. However, New York Times have noted the not-so-gender politics that reportedly plague the game. Moreover, the hit mobile game reportedly lost its momentum already as the game may no longer be the highest grossing game in the country as of date.

Super Mario Run Beats Facebook, YouTube In The U.S. App Store

When Super Mario Run launched, the game has been noted to climb to the top of the U.S. App Store charts. Apparently, the game was able to outperform Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat in an instant. However, the supposed nostalgic game has recently been noted as a non-family friendly game.

Apparently, New York Times has noted that Super Mario Run may be filled with retrograde gender stereotypes that was not in the 1985 first Super Mario Bros. release in the U.S. Note that in the game, Mario is required to save Princess Peach who pledges to bake him a cake in her castle. She further rewards Mario with a kiss.

It has further been noted that Super Mario Run may have leaned on making women as prizes. Note that Princess Peach and Toadette, another female unlocked characters may only be played after completion of certain tasks. Moreover, the game allegedly makes women seem helpless.

Data Reveals Super Mario Run Flops As The Top Highest-Grossing App

In other news, Super Mario Run reportedly lost its place on the top of the highest-grossing iOS apps in the U.S. on Dec. 24, 2016. The data was reportedly revealed by researcher App Annie. Previously, the game was noted as the most profitable app in 49 nations.

Super Mario Run reportedly remains on top of the most downloaded free demos in 88 countries. However, the game's drop in rankings was said to be caused by the app's full price. Apparently, gamers need to pay $10 to unlock the full Super Mario game apart from the characters that are also unlocked in the game. Watch a review here:
