Galaxy S4 CyanogenMod Support May Happen After All

Developers of CyanogenMod, the aftermarket firmware for Android devices, announced it hasn't ruled out supporting the Samsung Galaxy S4. Original reports suggested that CyanogenMod would not be created for the new Samsung smartphone and the developers stepped in to debunk this rumor.

CyanogenMod support for the Galaxy S4 came into question when a member of the team that works with development of the software posted a comment on a developer website. The comment was posted on XDA Developers by a developer from the Team Hacksung Team, XpLoDWilD.

"Nobody at team hacksung (the team behind galaxy s2, note, s3, note2, gtabs... official CM ports) plans to buy it, neither develop for it. There are two variants which will be a pain to maintain, the bugs we have on the s3 will probably be there on s4 too (camera), and we all know Samsung ability to release sources while staying in line with mainline. Yes qualcomm release sources, but exynos sources we had were far from actual galaxy products. I'm pretty sure the same will happen for this one. That's a uniform "no" from us," said the Hacksung developer.

Since this statement hit the Web, people assumed that there would be no CyanogenMod firmware offered for the Galaxy S4. The post has since been updated with additional comments letting everyone know that declining to work on development for the Galaxy S4 is a Hacksung Team point of view, and does not reflect the decision of the CyanogenMod project.

"What I wrote above is JUST from my/hacksung opinion. CyanogenMod is a big organization with hundreds of contributors around the world. Even if me/codeworkx/entropy/... won't develop for it, other people can go ahead and do it. It's not the CyanogenMod project that decided that 'no' I expressed," says the update from the Hacksung team member.

The team over at CyanogenMod wants to let everyone know it has no opinion on whether or not CyanogenMod is supporting the Galaxy S4, since the smartphone has not even made it to retail yet.

"CyanogenMod does not pre-announce support or lack of support for devices. Ever. Even for the Nexus 4, we did not announce support until a nightly build was available ... As for the team's stance on the S4, there isn't one at this time, and most definitely won't be one before the device is sold at retail," said the CyanogenMod Team on the CyanogenMod Google+ page.

CyanogenMod firmware is an alternative for Android users who want an alternative ROM on their devices. Many features and enhancements come with the customized firmware and it's designed to increase overall performance and reliability.
