After leaving Konami, Hideo Kojima had announced that he and his independent studio, Kojima Productions, are working on a game called Death Stranding. The studio will be collaborating with Horizon Zero Dawn developers Guerrilla Games and they will be making use of GG's Decima Engine. Kojima, however, says that the game will not just stop at "borrowing" the engine, but it will also be adding more into Guerrilla's engine, making it something entirely unique for Death Stranding.
According to Gaming Bolt, Kojima plans to do much more than just use GG's engine for his first independent game. He's doing so, too, because he doesn't want Death Stranding to look too much like Horizon Zero Dawn. Even the innovator, Kojima, is simply not content if he isn't able to bring anything new into the table.
In an interview, Kojima said, "The latest teaser trailer runs on the Guerrilla Games engine, but we're aiming for a different visual style than Horizon Zero Dawn, so many modifications have been made. It's also not just a simple case of borrowing the engine from Guerrilla Games; they said that they want to collaborate with KojiPro."
As of now, fans have no idea what to expect from Death Stranding. A lot of the reputation of Kojima Productions will be riding on the game as it will be the first title from the studio. Kojima has been best known for his work on the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but this will be his first title that won't be under the flag of Konami.
A lot of other notable celebrities are working on Death Stranding as well. "Hellboy" director Guillermo del Toro is known to be a collaborator for the game and "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus as well as "Hannibal" actor Mads Mikkelsen will also have their likenesses appear in Death Stranding. The whole plot and gameplay, however, is still a mystery.
Death Stranding has no official release date, but fans are expecting it to come out for the PS4 next year.
