The Last Guardian Gets The Honest Trailer Treatment, Watch It Here

Though The Last Guardian was one of the most anticipated titles for the PS4 last year, there is no doubt that the reception was a tad underwhelming, and the game was lost in obscurity to bigger titles like Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2. Smosh Games, the guys behind Honest Game Trailers on Youtube, has released a video poking fun at The Last Guardian and how the visually stunning game fell flat with some audience members.

Of course, the video mentions how stunningly beautiful the detail on the game is, but they also talk about several issues in the gameplay that a lot of people were not so fond of. As the game trudges on, several players have been frustrated on how the game seems to lack any "waypoint finders" that tell players where to go. That trend has been a recent feature for many modern explorer games like Arkham Asylum and the rebooted Tomb Raider, but it seems to be lacking in The Last Guardian. Ironically enough, there have also been complaints about the feature appearing in too many games, so there is probably going to be backlash whatever the studio decides to go with.

The video also takes jabs at the features of the nameless boy character in the game. Though the giant creature Trico is very lifelike with all his quirks and movements, the boy seems to be tiptoeing on the edge of being a great-looking character to one that seems to flail around a lot.

Despite all the teasing an complaints from players, The Last Guardian seems to be highly regarded by its peers and several game developers have placed the game on their top five for best games of 2016. The game reportedly took seven years to make, and director Fumito Ueda might not be too happy with The Last Guardian's divisive reception.

The Last Guardian follows a series including titles like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and is now available to play for the PS4.
