Greenwich Hospital: Baby's Death And Lawsuit Imminent

New details were released regarding a lawsuit filed against Greenwich Hospital.

Hospital staff allegedly had violated several state regulations in connection to a baby's death.

Lauren E. Sorgen and husband Grant D. Gulyassy claim that hospital staff failed to institute appropriate policies and procedures leading to the death of baby Myriam Grace Gulyassy.

Lauren was pregnant with twins. A healthy baby boy was delivered, unfortunately baby girl Myriam did not survive the delivery.

Silver Golum & Teitell, the law firm representing the couple contends that the staff at Greenwich Hospital had failed to monitor baby Myriam's heartbeat and did not perform a C-section in time leading to the death.

Director of communications Dana Marnane for the hospital issued a statement on Thursday. She states that the death of the infant is tragic and their deepest sympathies go out to the family's loss according to an article by Greenwich Time.

According to her, the Hospital administration is taking this matter very seriously although they cannot comment on the pending litigation. Greenwich Hospital has instituted additional measures related to high-risk pregnancies since the incident.

On June 3, 2015, Lauren Sorgen was admitted to the hospital after signs that her water sac ruptured. Medical staff at the staff at the hospital recorded that they had difficulty maintaining fetal heart beats.

The suit alleges that hospital staff failed to obtain ultrasound of the babies, monitor their heartbeats and initiate emergency C-section delivery.

The babies were delivered through C-section three hours later. The suit states that the hospital staff's failure to deliver the baby immediately had caused her untimely death due to oxygen deprivation as reported by Greenwich Patch.

The law firm representing the couple says that the state's Department of Public Health documents will bring to light the hospital's improper measures. The lawyers stated that since the incident the Department of Health has issued new policies and practices as a result.
