Tanvas Unveils Haptic Feedback System, Allows User To Feel What They Touch

Tanvas has finally unveiled its first Haptic feedback system where the user can actually feel the texture they touch. The launch of such a device took place in Las Vegas at the world's biggest tech event, CES 2017.

What Are The Features?

Tanvas launched a haptic feedback system by the intensive research of Ed Colegate and Michael Peshkin who used electrostatics to modulate friction. The company has designed a touch screen device which would allow the users to feel the texture of the fabric by touching the screen. The digits would bump along a series of horizontal lines, making the user feel a tinge of every tooth in a zip or the roughness of sandpaper. It is definitely not like the actual feel of the material but it is amazing as reported.

One of the most amazing demos the company showed was somewhat related to automotive displays just like the one found in Tesla. Instead of looking at the display, the Tanvas screen can actually give a sensation of notch like controller.

Another demo was shown by an application of Tanvas' partner Bonobos, the apparel company. The app showed two pairs of pants with two different fabrics and the user can rub the screen and feel the texture of both of the fabrics. Though the screen would not exactly feel like textile but it did give a good sense of the fabric.

What The Future Holds?

The Tanvas touch technology would require their screen to send more precise responses whenever someone touches the screen using electromagnetic pulses. The technology was researched for over ten years and finally, the company has brought it to the biggest tech event CES 2017. The company is also looking over to create a special mode for the visually impaired and implement this technology to the games and educational apps which would attract partners for the company.
