It seems Samsung and its tech rival Apple are calling a truce. Users of the wearable Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch will be able to pair their device to their Apple iPhone at long last. Samsung announced the Gear S3 companion iOS app at the recent CES 2017. Before, only Android users were able to pair their smartphones with the Gear S3.
The apps are already up for downloading. All you need to do is visit the iTunes App Store for the Gear S or Gear Fit app depending on the device you are using. Download the Samsung Gear S app, if you have Gear S2 and Gear S3. Get the Samsung Gear Fit app for the Gear Fit2 on compatible iOS devices from the Apple App Store. Pair your Samsung Gear S2, Gear S3 or Gear Fit2 with a Bluetooth connection to enjoy all of the features. Steps to complete the pairing will be provided, once the right app for the wearable is downloaded by the user. What's even better is that the downloads are free. The iTunes Store warns that letting the GPS run in the background continuously will dramatically decrease battery life.
"While features and functions will vary by device, iOS users will be able to enjoy the Samsung Gear S3's timeless and stylish design, IP68 water and dust resistance, as well as the built-in GPS, Alti/barometer and Speedometer apps," Samsung says in an email. Users can also track the distance and route they travel, the pace they run at, calculate the calories that they burn and monitor heart rate.
This means that while you might notice a few differences in the features and function by a device, expect that your experience should pretty much be identical to the experience of Android users. The new Gear S app will let users sync their health and fitness data with the Samsung S Health service.
