Diesel-Powered F-150 Is Set To Arrive In 2018, Says Ford

The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck in its segment for a very long time, 40 years to be exact. And it seems that the American automaker intends to keep it that way by finally offering a diesel-powered engine under its hood by 2018. With this announcement, it looks like next year will be a very interesting one.

Ford's New Diesel Engine

According to report from Road and Track, the new diesel engine will be fitted in the light-duty F-150. Details regarding the horsepower, torque, fuel economy and other information have not yet been revealed at this time. Accordingly, the new 3.0-liter PowerStroke diesel engine will enable the light-duty Ford F-150 to go up against the lineups from Ram and General Motors.

2018 Ford F-150 Also Gets A Facelift And Performance Update

In addition to a new diesel engine, the 2018 Ford F-1150 is also getting an exterior update as reported by Fox News. It was stated that a new grille along with tailgate and headlight designs are on the way. Accordingly, a new adaptive cruise control system is also underway. It was stated that it will have the capability of detecting pedestrians and traffic in front of it and automatically engages the brakes. Furthermore, drivers needing to step on the pedals will become optional as reported.

2018 Ford F-150 Also Gets Other Engine Upgrades

Aside from the new diesel engine for the Ford F-150, the other engines will also be updated. Reports state that the 3.3-liter naturally-aspirated V6 base engine will be replaced by a 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin turbo V6. A 5 followed by a 5.0-liter V8 and 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin turbo V6. Accordingly, these engines will all be paired with the latest 10-speed automatic transmission, which is a product of the collaboration between Ford and GM as reported.

Ford's F-150 Will Appear In 2017 Detroit Auto Show

Reports state that the updated Ford F-150 will make an appearance at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. The event has already started and will last until Jan. 22, 2017 as reported. Those that are interested to see the Ford F-150 can simply check it out there.
