Google Nexus 7 Now Shipping To Consumers In India

Last week we reported that Google's Nexus 7 tablet has gone on sale in India via the Google Play Store and was expected to ship to consumers by April 5. However, reports now suggest that Google is shipping out the tablet earlier than the April 5 deadline.

The Nexus 7 is the first device to be sold from the Google Play Store in India. According to reports, consumers have already received Fedex tracking numbers for the shipment and one consumer even received the delivery from FoneArena.

"When the Google Nexus 7 tablet went on sale last week , Google indicated that it would ship the orders by April 5th. But looks like the company decided to ship them out earlier than expected. A few readers have already mailed us that they have already received Fedex tracking numbers for the shipment and 1 reader actually got the device delivered at his home," reports FoneArena.

Previous reports had also indicated that the Google Nexus 7 units were being shipped to India via Singapore. The FoneArena report also reveals that that the Nexus 7 was imported in January 2013 itself, before the official release in India.

"Looks like the units are being imported by a distributor in bulk and then shipped within India using Fedex. Interesting the Nexus 7 has been imported in the month of January 2013 itself ahead of the official announcement. The company importing the devices is OTS E-Solutions Pvt. Ltd which also owns GadgetsGuru.com. Seems like the devices were ready to be shipped when it went live on the Play Store," notes the website.

The 16GB variant of the Nexus 7 is available for order via the Google Play Store. However, the tablet is priced steeply at Rs 15,999, which is equivalent to $300, when compared to its U.S. and European counterparts. Purchasing the 16GB version from the U.S. Play Store would set consumers back by $199. What's more, the Rs 15,999 price is not inclusive of shipping and any applicable duties.

With the tablet already making its way to consumers before the targeted timeline, consumers in India can get a taste of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
