U.S. carrier Sprint is gearing up to introduce the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone in an all-new purple model come April 12, if reports are to be believed.
According to an Engadget report, a tipster has sent across a screenshot of the "Amethyst" smartphone, which reveals that the purple Galaxy S3 is set to debut on Friday, April 12 on the carrier Sprint.
The 16GB version of the Galaxy S3 in purple will retail for $99.99 on a two-year contract.
"Last month, a purple Galaxy S III first reared its regal-hued exterior accompanied by claims that it would launch on Sprint sometime in April. Tonight, a tipster sent a screenshot our way that's pegged the aubergine handset for an April 12th release on the Now Network. With the help of a $50 mail-in rebate, you'll be able to pick up the 16GB variant of the smartphone for $99 on a two-year contract," reports Engadget.
Previously, the noted tipster who goes by the Twitter handle @evleaks shared the image of the Galaxy S3 in purple, which showed the handset sporting the Sprint branding on the rear.
According to @evleaks' Twitter post at the time, the purple version of the Sprint Galaxy S3 was slated to release in mid-April.
Earlier in March, rumors were rife that Sprint would launch a purple variant of the Galaxy S3 on April 12.
"According to data contained in the screenshot that was sent to us this morning, Sprint is readying a purple Samsung Galaxy S III. The said device, carrying 16GB of native storage space, is supposedly scheduled to launch on April 12," noted the PhoneArena report at the time.
The Galaxy S3 is available in an array of hues like Pebble Blue, Marble White, Titanium Gray, Garnet Red, Amber Brown, Sapphire Black and Martian Pink. However, the availability of the colors is carrier- and region-specific. With Sprint allegedly set to unveil the best-selling smartphone in purple or "Amethyst," fans of the Galaxy S3 will have yet another color to choose from.
However, with Samsung's latest Galaxy S4 set to hit the shelves around the same time, it will be interesting to see if the purple Galaxy S3 can still lure consumers its way.
