Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to Galaxy S2 in late January. Users in Canada, Europe and some parts of Asia got the software update first and now it's U.S. carriers' turn.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S2 in 2011 and it came pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The device received various software updates and most of the current users of the smartphone have Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
Here's the status of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on various U.S. carriers:
AT&T
AT&T Galaxy S2 users have not received the software update and the carrier has not confirmed the release date of the software update roll-out.
Traditionally, AT&T has been slow on major software update and has been silent regarding the release date until the last moment. Canadian carrier Rogers, which typically replicates AT&T Android release date, has already rolled out the software update in Canada.
Sprint
Sprint became the first U.S. carrier to roll out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its Galaxy S2 subscribers on March 28. The carrier's update included many features that were included in the international variant of the device such as Pop Up Video, Easy Mode, Smart Stay, Easy Call and more.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile has also not confirmed the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S2; however, the carrier is good at updating its devices very swiftly. Even though the carrier is not the first to roll out a software update, it is also not the last. Similar to AT&T, T-Mobile also confirms a software release on the day of the roll-out.
Verizon
Verizon usually puts its devices through rigorous testing before publicly issuing an update, which causes the carrier to fall behind a software release date when compared to other carriers in the country.
Usually, Verizon posts an update on its website ahead of a software release date. Unlike other carriers, we should hope to see Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S2 on Verizon's website a day or a few days before the official roll-out.
U.S. Cellular
U.S. Cellular Galaxy S2 customers faced a big delay in getting Android 4.0 (ICS). It may not come as a surprise if the carrier is one of the last U.S. carriers to roll out the software update. Similar to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular confirms the software release information on the date of the roll-out.
