Splatoon 2's release date may have just been leaked by a major U.K. video game retailer. The game listing on the store's website pegs the launch date to be at Aug. 18, which coincidentally falls in Summer 2017, the announced release timeframe for the sequel.
Splatoon 2 Release Date On GAME Listing Is A Placeholder?
It is possible that the U.K. video game store called GAME just put a placeholder date in its Splatoon 2 listing. However, ThisGenGaming has noted the date to be rather specific to be a placeholder. Furthermore, Aug. 18 falls on a Friday, which is a common day for U.K. releases.
Even so, what may be true for U.K. is not necessarily the same for the U.S. audience. Nintendo has not confirmed anything yet other than Splatoon 2's Summer 2017 targeted release date, so rumors and leaks like this one should be taken with a grain of salt.
What's New With Splatoon 2 vs Predecessor?
According to USGamer, Splatoon 2 does not look much different from the first game at a glance. The trailer did not really offer anything new, but there is still a lot of information that Nintendo is holding, so the two games cannot be really compared right now.
Nevertheless, fans expect a new weapon type called Splat Dualies, new special attacks for already existing weapons and new songs. Splatoon 2 should now also have a local multiplayer option, as revealed in the Nintendo Switch presentation on Jan. 12. Since Nintendo Switch will not have a secondary screen, which Splatoon players enjoyed in Wii U, gamers will now have to press "X" to bring up the level maps.
That's about everything known about the sequel for now. More news about release date, pricing, Splatoon 2 gameplay and more are expected as Summer 2017 approaches.
