Nintendo Switch: How It Could Be A Success

Ever since it was first announced, the Nintendo Switch - which was then called the Nintendo NX - has been circling around the hype pool. Since then, the company has made most aspects of the upcoming console known to the public and has thereby tried to correct past mistakes. However, it will take much more for the device to be a success in the market, where power has often reigned supreme.

Largely because it is Nintendo, the Switch has been met with everything from enthusiasm, excitement, confusion and doubtfulness. The company is on the verge of releasing an odd console, which has not always worked in its favor before. Furthermore, the device will launch with a comparatively small library of games.

The Nintendo Switch basically has three modes since it works as a standard home docked console, but it can also work as a handheld and it has multiplayer capabilities. The console also has motion controls. However, Forbes notes that it will be more expensive than the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One since it will retail for USD$300. But despite this, it will have a small library - by any player's standards - at launch.

But the publication argues that there is one thing Nintendo has with the Switch that can push it towards mainstream gaming and thereby make it a success. That is its multiplayer mode, which will give players a nostalgic feeling from consoles such as the NES, SNES, and N64. It will be that feeling of playing with friends and loved ones in the same room, on the same console and on the same screen.

The public seems to have picked up on this aspect of the Nintendo Switch very quickly and the publication argues that this is why the console has received so much hype. The game company has done well in showing what the device is capable of, which is another reason why it is expected to do better than its direct predecessor. The Wii U was a bit of a mystery that the majority of the public deemed not enjoyable enough to solve.

And Nintendo Of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted as much. In an interview with GameSpot, he said the Switch was expected to be a success because it has a clear path and a definite description. He told the publication that the company has definitely done a better job at communication just what the upcoming unit is capable of.

Fils-Aime also said that the Nintendo Switch will be a successful player in the market because of its content. At its release, the console will have just five launch titles - "The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild" included - but the game exec confirmed there will be more notable titles to come in the weeks following. "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe," "Super Mario Odyssey" and "Splatoon 2" are only some of the planned titles. There will also be third-party support, as "Skyrim," "NBA 2K18" and "Minecraft" will be part of the roster. Films-Aime promised a "steady cadence of content" following the launch on March 3.
