Sierra Nevada Brewery Recalls Bottled Beers Due To Bottle Hazard

The Sierra Nevada Brewery announced on Sunday about its bottled beer recall. This follows the company’s detection of the flaw of the bottles as the glass reportedly can break and fall inside. Following this, SNB pulled out its beers from the Midwest, South and East Coast markets.

The Sierra Nevada Brewery wrote in a statement on its official website that it has to recall eight types of its craft beers which are all in the 12-ounce bottles. The flawed bottles produced in the company’s Mills River, North Carolina brewery includes the popular Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. The beers of the brewery corporation is purchased in 36 states across the country of the United States.

"While we believe this concern impacts roughly one in every 10,000 (0.01%) of our bottles packaged during this time, Sierra Nevada has set the standard for quality in the craft brewing industry since 1980 and we have decided to take this precaution to ensure the safety of our consumers," executives wrote in the statement. Sierra Nevada Brewery confessed about the flaw saying that the glass shard could break loose and fall inside of the bottle which could be dangerous to drinkers. The company though has not received any customer complaints or reports of injuries so far regarding this bottle flaw.

The recall affects other varieties like the Beer Camp Golden IPA, Torpedo Extra IPA, Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, Tropical Torpedo, Hop Hunter, Nooner and Otra Vez. The recalled bottles were reportedly produced between Dec. 5 and Jan. 8 for the Pale Ale, while the rest were manufactured between Dec. 5 and jan. 13. The Sierra Nevada Brewery has already stopped distributing these affected beers and is reportedly working to have the beer varieties removed from the retail shelves of the states selling them.

According to the SFGate, states included in the recall are Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Purchased beers from these states can be refunded. The Sierra Nevada Brewery says the flawed bottles could affect about 1 in every 10,000 of bottled beers manufactured during the aforementioned five-week period.
