The celebration of the Chinese New Year nears and several notable video games already hosted their own versions of celebrating the Chinese New Year by way of a game event. Recently, popular sports game NBA 2K17 did not disappoint their fans since community manager, Ronnie2K, teased a possible Chinese New Year Event for the game. The said event is expected to arrive in the next NBA 2K17 update.
According to the report from The BitBag, Ronnie2K tweeted a festive Year of the Rooster card with NBA 2K17's title attached to it. As a result, several fans suspect that Ronnie2K might teased an upcoming Chinese New Year event to the game. The said event might bring several seasonal game exclusives such as cosmetics, player cards and boosts. However, NBA 2K Official Twitter account has not issued any confirmation regarding this reported event as of the moment.
Based on the report, players might get a Chinese New Year-themed cosmetics in the game once the event arrives. Some NBA teams such as Golden State Warriors may receive some special jerseys that have Chinese New Year hues and design. In addition, shoe manufacturers like Nike might make some limited edition Chinese New Year shoes having shades of Red, Orange and Gold for the players.
Meanwhile, iDigital Times reported that NBA 2K17 might add NBA Hall of Famer and former Houston Rockets Superstar, Yao Ming, to the game. Yao officially ended his NBA career last 2011. However, due to the upcoming Chinese New Year Event, several fans are suspecting that NBA 2K will consider bringing him back. In addition, the developers might also add a Houston Rocket team where Yao is in his prime.
On the other hand, new Yao Ming cards could potentially be added to the game's MyTeam mode. 2K may add Yao Ming as Free Agent so that players can draft him and add the towering big man to their arsenal.
