$15.3 Million Solid Gold And Diamond iPhone 5: The World's Most Expensive Phone

If the aluminum and glass design of the iPhone 5 is not up your alley, then you have the option to get the smartphone customized in gold and diamonds, but be prepared to shell out a whopping £10 million (approximately a bit over $15.3 million).

A Chinese businessman who did not fancy his £520 ($800) iPhone 5 had British luxury goods designer Stuart Hughes give the smartphone a makeover in gold and diamonds instead. The Chinese businessman, whose identity is not known, met designer Hughes in Liverpool and presented him with the black phone.

The solid gold iPhone 5 took a little over two months, or nine weeks to be precise, to be made. The device touts 600 white diamonds around the edge of the phone and has 135g of 24-carat gold. The Home button has been replaced by a single black diamond, which the Chinese businessman has had for awhile. The diamond weighs 26 carats and is worth £9 million ($14.5 million) on its own, accounting for the major value of the device.

Hughes also replaced the iPhone's glass with Sapphire glass, which Apple deploys in its camera lens but is considered too expensive for use on larger parts.

Moreover, an additional 53 diamonds make up the Apple logo on the rear of the handsets, making this iPhone 5 the world's most expensive phone.

An additional 53 diamonds compose the Apple logo on the back of the device, which also contribute to making it the world's most expensive phone.

"This beautiful handset took 9 weeks of detailed intricate work to re-create the original chasis of the iphone 5 in solid gold all of which was started and finished by hand, including a flawless black single deep cut diamond weighing in at 26 cts, most unique to replace the home button also the chasis was inlaid with a circa of 600 white flawless diamonds with full gold dressing for the rear section with the logo in solid gold with 53 flawless diamonds. This masterpiece boasts a massive circa of 135 grams of 24ct gold and of course sapphire glass set in the screen," notes Stuart Hughes.

Hughes has previously created gold iPads, laptops and even a Fiat 500 worth $655,000.

Beneath the multi-million-pound exterior, the iPhone 5 Black Diamond remains unchanged, with the same 8-megapixel camera, 4-inch Retina display and dual-core processor from the regular Apple phone.

If anyone is looking for a "cheaper" custom iPhone 5, Hughes will make you a solid gold version without the diamonds for $33,827, while a gold iPad will have you shelling out close to $2 million for the 64GB version.
