Square Enix had just recently revealed that they're working close with Marvel Studios to develop games based on Marvel properties, and the first game they announced seems to be focused on "The Avengers." More details have been revealed on the deal between the two companies, and it looks like Marvel is entering a whole new era of games.
Marvel And Square Enix Partnership
According to Gaming Bolt, Phil Rogers, the CEO of Square Enix Americas and Europe, said, "Marvel's diverse, innovative universe has created millions of longtime fans, including all of us. It's exciting to bring together Square Enix's award-winning development studios with Marvel's extraordinary storytellers to establish a new entertainment powerhouse." On the Marvel side of things, Senior Vice President of Games and Innovation Jay Ong says that the partnership between the two studios will "bring Marvel stories to life in ways our fans have never experienced."
A lot of people are aware that Marvel Studios has turned itself into a box office powerhouse which brings in billions of dollars every year. Aside from using beloved characters, their movies have always been known for their spectacle and visuals. Square Enix, on the other hand, has had quite the reputation for creating visually stunning games that have cemented themselves in pop-culture like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and the rebooted Tomb Raider. It's also worth mentioning that Square also has a relationship with Disney, the current owner of Marvel Studios.
Marvel Needs A Good Game
Though Marvel may be dominating the big screen today, lots of fans can barely remember when a good Marvel game came out. Sure Marvel vs. Capcom has Iron Man and Captain America appearing in the game, but they barely reach the appeal or prestige that is owned by DC's Batman: Arkham series. The last good Marvel game with a story that fans can remember is Spider-Man 2 which came out for the PS2.
Surely a lot of fans are excited with the partnership of the two entertainment giants, and they can't wait to see what kind of action Square Enix's "Avengers" game will bring to the table.
