LG G6 Ditches Removable Battery But Will Have Water-Resistant Body

Have you seen and experience using the existing LG G5? This smartphone has a feature of removing the battery to the unit itself. After changing the way we access the battery of a smartphone with a cartridge-like input, LG wants us to go back to the way we are used to be. According to a report, the upcoming LG G6 ditches removable battery but will have water resistant body.

LG G6 Will Have A Water-Resistant Body

Unlike the LG G5, the upcoming LG G6 battery will not be removable anymore, according to CNET. Instead, the smartphone's battery will be sealed in, allowing for a waterproof design. The company's next flagship G6 smartphone, which is said to be unveiled next month at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show in Barcelona, will have a sealed battery like the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S phones

The decision to ditch the removable battery, which is a longstanding feature on its flagship phones and one of the elements that made its devices unique. Emphasizes how every tech company is slowly moving to the same place in terms of each smartphone's design. Last year, LG went out on a limb with a design that let you swap out the bottom piece of the G5, an innovative move that turned out to be a commercial failure. This year, it's falling in line with the look and feel of other high-end phones.

Non-removable batteries are a fixture now of Apple iPhones and Samsung's Galaxy S series. However, LG was one of the few smartphone makers that still allowed users to extract, pluck, replace and return the battery as they pleased. This feature helped LG stand out, especially when Samsung took the step to seal its smartphone batteries more than a year ago.

LG G6 Release Date And Other Features

LG would have had to delay the launch of the most anticipated smartphone to April in order to use the Snapdragon 835. Samsung is widely believed to be the first company to use the 835 processor in the Android market and expected to go into the upcoming Galaxy S8. The decision does allow LG to launch its phone ahead of Samsung, which isn't expected to have a large presence at MWC 2017.

As reported by TechRadar, the LG G6 will feature a thin frame around the body and rounded edges on the glass display. The smartphone follows the Xiaomi Mi Mix, which will also be introduced a similar looking phone that's virtually all glass on the front. This will likely be a trend in phones this year since Apple and Samsung are widely believed to be introducing a new iPhone and Galaxy lineup with the same picture.

The LG G6 will follow the footsteps of Google's very own smartphone, Pixel, and Pixel XL, and come with Google Assistant. LG isn't just working with Google. It has a strong relationship with Amazon and actually intended to put Amazon's Alexa digital assistant into the G6. But it shelved the plan because it didn't feel ready just yet. But Alexa will likely arrive in LG phones later this year.
