Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto Online still has quite the community, and thousands of players can still be found on the servers. Rumors have come out, however, that the game will soon be dying out once Red Dead Redemption 2 releases this year and Rockstar Games starts working on GTA 6.
Not Enough Devs For GTA Online
According to a blog post from Yan 2295, updates for GTA Online will be going slowly this year, and they'll stop once RDR 2 gets released sometime in fall. He writes, "Apparently Rockstar North is "divided" in 4 parts as of right now... So you're left with only a few people to work on GTA Online. You can't have updates as big as we had in the past when you have 4x less devs working on GTA Online, that's just impossible."
He also points out that some of the devs that were working on GTA Online have moved on to work on Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as Grand Theft Auto 6. With those two games being highly anticipated by a ton of fans, GTA Online may not be so high up Blizzard's priority list.
Gaming Bolt has pointed out that Yan 2295 had posted reliable material before, but still, fans should take the news with a grain of salt. Though RDR 2 maybe making a comeback, the GTA players may still want something to play with while waiting for GTA 6. News has even come out that there's a plan to remaster LA Noire for the current gen.
Red Dead Redemption 2
As of now, Rockstar Games is gearing up for the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. The first RDR game introduced players to an open world depicting the wild west. With HBO's successful release of "Westworld" last year, cowboys and shoot 'em ups are at an all-time high. With the first game focusing on one playable character, John Marston, RDR 2 looks to be focusing on a "Magnificent Seven"-type gang, with seven characters on the banner. Could Marston be back with his old gang of ruffians?
Will GTA Online find itself floundering after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 this fall? Only time will tell.
