"Outlander" season 3 announced two new cast members, Gary Young as Mr. Willoughby and Charlie Hiett as Captain Thomas Leonard. Meanwhile, the crew reportedly wrapped up filming in Scotland and scheduled to film next in South Africa which might continue until late May. The 13-episode installment will follow the third the third book of Diana Gabaldon's Voyager series. Spoilers revealed the fans will see more of Lord John Grey in the upcoming series.
'Outlander' Season 3 And Lord John Grey
The third season will follow the events after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) came back to 1948. Her pregnancy will cause a rift with his first husband Frank. Learning that Jaime (Sam Heughan) didn't die in the Battle of Culloden, she will be torn between raising his daughter and finding clues to Jaime's whereabouts. Twenty years after their separation, Claire will come back to the 18th century through the stone circle. However, she is unsure of what or who she will find. Surely, Jaime will not be the same person when they were separated.
The series will focus on how the two changed after 20 years. Gosh! TV revealed fans will see more of Lord John Grey (Oscar Kennedy) in the upcoming season. After his, appearance is season 2, John immediately became a fan favorite. Gabaldon even wrote a spin-off novel focusing on him.
In a recent interview, Heughan teased that season 3 would include one of the novels about Grey. "The Scottish Prisoner" features events that took place in the same timeline as the third Voyager book. John will recruit Jaime in a time sensitive mission and the two will end up traveling in Ireland.
'Outlander' Season 3 New Cast Members
Gary Young, known for films including "Crouching Tiger" and "Hidden Dragon: Swords of Destiny" was cast for the role of Mr. Willoughby. According to the book, Mr. Willoughby, with the birth name Yi Tien Cho, is a talented Chinese bureaucratic scholar. He escaped China after he was chosen to be part of the household of the Emperor's second wife. Disguising himself as a pilgrim, he left the city and boarded a ship to Edinburgh.
Caught stealing food and alcohol, Yi-Tien Cho was about to be killed when Jamie saved him and renamed him, Mr. Willoughby. He then became Jamie's confidante. He has a talent in Chinese medicine such as acupuncture. He also writes poems to express his unrequited love for women. He can also do acrobatics and has a sexual fetish about feet.
Meanwhile, Charlie Hiett, famous for films "The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher" and "M.I.High" will portray Captain Thomas Leonard, the young captain of the ship Artemis, which Claire and Jaime were boarding. He is inexperienced and was promoted captain after an infectious disease killed most of the senior officers. He is known for strictly obeying rules by the book.
Other casts previously confirmed to be joining "Outlander" season 3 according to MStarsNews include Tanya Reynolds as Isobel, Hannah James as Geneva and John Bell as Young Ian Murray. Meanwhile, Wil Johnson was cast as Joe Abernathy and César Domboy will portray adult Fergus. "Outlander" season 3 is speculated to premiere in April after filming in Africa.
