News that Finnish smartphone maker Nokia is gearing up to launch "something new" this Wednesday, April 24 is bound to send a shiver of excitement down fans' spine. Nokia has just revealed via a blog post that it is prepared to announce "something new."
However, the cryptic message does not reveal what Nokia has up its sleeve. Fans who are hoping for the company to out its much-touted successor to the Lumia 920, dubbed Lumia 928, could be a little disappointed as the image teaser hints at the Asha line-up of devices.
"You won't have to wait long to find out. On Wednesday morning at 7am GMT we will be announcing something new, followed by a Q&A session with Neil Broadley from our Mobile Phones team and a special guest," notes Nokia's official Conversations blog.
The teaser photo accompanying the message shows a yellow device with a QWERTY keyboard, suggesting that Nokia could unveil a QWERTY-enabled smartphone, possibly one for its budget friendly Asha series.
Also the indication that Nokia's Mobile Phones team will be present points to an Asha device, rather than a Lumia one. Moreover, with low-end Android-powered devices eating into Nokia's market share, the Finnish company's budget handset line-up is in desperate need of a refresh.
Come April 24, we'll soon know what surprises Nokia has up its sleeve and who the special guest is. Coincidentally, per rumors, Nokia's budget friendly Lumia 521 (variant of the Lumia 520) is expected to debut on carrier T-Mobile in the U.S. on the same day.
Rumors are also rife that the Lumia 928 smartphone which is allegedly heading to carrier Verizon will launch a day later on April 25 and release in May. Verizon to teased an event invite recently for May 22.
With so many Nokia handsets gearing up for a launch, Nokia seems to have an action packed week ahead.
