Android Key Lime Pie Delayed, New Nexus 4 Instead?

One of the most anticipated developments for unveiling at the Google I/O event in San Francisco next month is Android Key Lime Pie. Despite the fact that the forthcoming Android iteration has yet to be officially named by Google, Android Key Lime Pie has been on the tip of everyone's tongues (and pens/keyboards) for the last few months.

Because of this excitement over the upcoming Android Key Lime Pie, we assumed Google would be keeping up with the hype and would use the I/O conference as a platform to unveil (or at least finally officially name) Android 5.0.

Now, it seems, Android Key Lime Pie will not be one of the many developments Google will unveil at the I/O event, according to Gadgetronica and its "trusty internal sources."

Despite the fact that we were certain Android Key Lime Pie would be revealed at the Google I/O conference, especially since Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was unveiled at last year's event, it seems Google might be delaying on the OS, due to its alleged need to "give OEMs some breathing room, who are hot at work trying to update their catalog [sic] of phones to the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean."

The bad news comes on the heels of other rumors and speculation that we will likely not be seeing the Motorola X or Nexus 5 at Google I/O (or anywhere else until late summer/early fall, it seems), regardless of the fact many of us had been (and may still be) expecting the devices to be revealed at the conference.

What we now can possibly expect at the Google I/O conference is not Android Key Lime Pie, not Nexus 5, but rather a new variant of the Nexus 4. The new Nexus 4 will likely have 32GB, an updated body design and LTE support (except in those countries in which there would be capability problems).

With the Nexus 4 32GB in the marketplace, Gadetronica also says the Nexus 4 8GB variant will be "phased out," seeing the new price points as:

  • Nexus 4 32 GB LTE - $349
  • Nexus 4 16 GB - $299
  • Nexus 4 8 GB (phased out) - $249 ?? [Gadgetronica stipulates this last one is total speculation.]

Are you still holding onto the hope we can expect Android Key Lime Pie to be unveiled in some way at Google I/O? What are your thoughts on the new Nexus 4? Let us know in the comments below!
