Bioware is breaking away from tradition to mix up the series' formula for "Mass Effect: Andromeda." Moreover, the upcoming action-adventure title has drawn some inspiration from "The Witcher" series.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" Took Inspiration From Similar Games
According to GameSpot, Bioware stated the action role-playing game will include some "meaningful" and sidequests similar to that from "The Witcher" games. The studio has addressed the issue regarding the various missions in their other games (like Dragon Age: Inquisition) claiming that they were tedious and of no importance. Because of this, they have supposedly learned from their mistakes and are seemingly planning on changing how they tackle quests.
Producer Fabrice Condominas mentioned that they are looking at the completionist aspect very differently now. However, he claimed that they do not want to sacrifice the quality of their mission either. Moreover, they have also been observing how other games, like "The Witcher," handle these kinds of situations.
A New Spin on the Series
That aside, creative director Max Walters noted how the upcoming installment is taking a different turn from the franchise, as per GamesRadar. This time, he wants Andromeda to feel like a new game as the developers were given the freedom to explore and experiment with the basic concepts of the game. In spite of this, they have still captured the important factors that the fans love but have also "re-envisioned" them.
He believes that the game provided the team with a "blue-sky place" where they were allowed more creative freedom than from the trilogy. In line with this, new players were introduced to the concept of discovering new planets and learning about the world order in "Mass Effect 1." By the third game, the exploration was overpowered by too much high-paced action.
While "Mass Effect: Andromeda" might be breaking the series's mold, it seems like the game will still be taking some points from its predecessors. The game will launch on Mar. 21 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. It is worth noting that there will be no crossplay support and the PC version will have uncapped frame rate.
