Horror Game 'Call Of Cthulhu' Goes Beyond Expectations

"Call of Cthulhu" is starting to set itself apart by adapting a special storyline and a unique gameplay. "Call of Cthulhu" is a game set in the lore of H.P. Lovecraft, a writer critically acclaimed for his substantial works on the horror fiction Genre. That being said, anyone who sets foot into his work should expect nothing but the unexplained, creepy and chaotic.

What Is Call of Cthulhu

According to Gamesradar, the player controls a private eye named Edward Pierce in Darkwater Island as he investigates the Hawkins Manor after it was burned down. The fire took the lives of Sarah and Charles Hawkins along with their son. Unfortunately, the local police cannot explain what happened, as they are flawed and full of inconsistencies, as a result, Edward was hired by Sarah's father to find out what really happened.

How The Game Is Played

In the game, players need to be thorough in terms of investigation as any information that the character learns or collects can open up new dialogue options, objectives, and can point out where to go next.

In a recent demonstration of the game, it is shown to the spectators that Eduard was investigating the burned down Hawkins Mansion. Here, he uses his investigative skills to gather information relative to the incident. Eduard goes on to an area of the mansion that houses Sarah's creepy paintings, and also where he sees a vase full of weapons including a tentacle knife. Eduard decides to investigate one painting, where upon touch, a monster appears and chases him. It is by driving the tentacle knife into the painting that Eduard was able to kill the monster. According to Maximilian Lutz, Narrative Designer for "Call of Cthulhu," the character is defenseless and that they really can't fight monsters, and the only way to get rid of them is to use the knowledge that players acquired through investigating.

As for character interaction, Gamerevolution mentioned that a player in a dialogue with other characters can choose to persuade, intimidate, be informed (psychology), or do small talk. Whichever the player chooses to go with, the success of an option depends on the character's skills and with a roll of a dice.

Since the game has no definite release date yet, players and fans can only hope that in the coming months, the developers would reveal more of the game or would do an open beta. Hopefully, the features present in the game would help propel and distinguish "Call of Cthulhu" from other horror games around.
