Samsung launched the Galaxy S4 in India on Friday April 26 for Rs. 41,500. The smartphone will be available at Samsung's premium brand stores in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday April 27, with availability across India starting within the next couple of days.
"At Samsung, we are committed to innovation and to our consumers ... we are proud to announce the launch of our flagship device and the much-awaited, Samsung Galaxy S4," Samsung Electronics President and CEO (South-West Asia) B.D. Park said.
Both the price of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in India and its availability represent competitive moves by Samsung, who have outdone HTC and Apple with the launch. The HTC One is priced at Rs. 42,990 and the iPhone 5 is priced at Rs. 45,500.
The Galaxy S4 is Samsung's flagship device and packs a number of features, including a five-inch full HD super AMOLED touchscreen. The Indian version of the Galaxy S4 is powered by a 1.6 GHz octa-core Exynos 5 processor with a PowerVR SGX 544mp3 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The 16GB of internal storage is expandable up to 64GB through a microSD card. Also included are a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2- megapixel front camera and a 2,600 mAh battery.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes delivered with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. This latest version of the Android software brings with it a number of new features including "Smart Pause," whereby a video is paused when users remove their eyes from the screen. "Air View" allows users to manipulate content on screen just by hovering their fingers over the device. "Dual Camera" and "Dual Video Call" let users take pictures and video using both the front and rear cameras at the same time.
