Nintendo has released an update to the Wii U system that will speed up performance.
The company says the focus of the update is to improve the system's lagging performance and address the long load times. Critics have said the console has some serious speed issues and a lagging interface.
This is the first major update to the system since the console was released last year.
The update should cut down on load times by at least 33 percent, according to Polygon. It also added background downloads, the ability to exchange or copy files between two USB storage devices and to select more than one software title when transferring, copying, or deleting data. You can also now boot directly into the original Wii mode by holding down the B button at startup. Other improvements include an undo/redo button in the Miiverse, an ability to change TV screen size output and users can control which items get downloaded first.
"Wii U continues to grow and evolve with new features that make it a better experience for everyone," Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's president and COO said in a prepared statement. "Now owners can navigate to their favorite games and services even faster, or play some of their favorite classic games."
Wii U has two editions for purchase. The Basic Edition is priced at $299.99 and features 8GB of internal storage, a GamePad, a sensor and the necessary cables including HDMI. The Deluxe Edition has far more storage at 32GB, charging stands, and a copy of the game Nintendo Land. That's priced at $349.99.
The update may not do enough to boost the console's sales. Nintendo Wii sales fell far behind its competitors even including older Xbox and PlayStation models.
Nintendo plans another update for this summer to further speed up the system's lag.
