Yoshiaki Koizumi of Nintendo hinted the potential comeback of the GameCube exclusive titles in the newest hybrid-console, the Nintendo Switch. This clears the rumor regarding the potential comeback of some of the famous GameCube games in the Switch.
For those that didn't know, the GameCube is an old platform that was considered to be an under-appreciated console during its time. Some of its exclusive titles have never given the chance to fully prove themselves from the masses and had faded alongside the console. Today, it appears that the deputy general manager of Nintendo hinted the potential comeback of some GameCube titles in the Switch.
Switch To Have GameCube Exclusive Titles?
The Switch is only a few weeks away and the upcoming hybrid-console of Nintendo never ceased to surprise its fans. In an interview with a French publication, Yoshiaki Koizumi hinted the possibility of GameCube games making their comeback in the Switch by saying: "We can not really answer with precision [about GameCube games coming to the Switch] because we have not announced anything about it at this time...what I can tell you is that we are working on things that go in that direction."
The statement above further support the theory that Nintendo developers are currently in the works at remastering some of the GameCube exclusive titles which have never seen the bright spotlight of stardom. For those that didn't know, the old Nintendo console, albeit underwhelming at some point, had actually spawned interesting titles. Here are some of the games that may see a remastered version in the Switch:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
This Final Fantasy installment was exclusively made for the Nintendo GameCube and was one of the most popular titles of the said platform. The game is one of the first to feature the cross-platform compatibility, enabling the compatibility mode between Game Boy Advance and GameCube. It was well received by both fans and critics and had since spawned two sequels and a couple of distant prequels. If Nintendo is planning on making a remastered version of GameCube titles, it's safe to say that Final Fantasy is on top of their list.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
The Zelda series is one of the most successful game franchises to date. One of the notable titles for the GameCube is the Four Swords Adventures wherein Link is taken on an adventure to restore peace in Hyrule after an alternate mirror of him; dubbed "Shadow Link" was created. According to Wikipedia, the game is considered as the 48th-best game ever made for Nintendo and was the third best-selling game of June 2004 in North America, having sold 155,000 units back then.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The tenth installment of the Zelda series, the Wind Waker is an open world action-adventure RPG that was a certified blockbuster hit during its release. The game was highly acclaimed by critics; praising its rich design and gameplay. Metacritic scored it 96/100 while Famitsu gave it a perfect score, making it the fourth game to have ever received such rating. An HD remastered version of the game was released on Wii U way back in 2013 and due to its unwavering popularity, we may be seeing another Wind Waker remaster on the Nintendo Switch.
Whilst these are purely speculative, it's interesting to note that the above-mentioned titles are one of the most prominent games for the GameCube console. If Nintendo is indeed incorporating some of the platform's exclusives onto the Switch, these three titles will never go unnoticed.
