Nexus 11 Specs Leak; Samsung Plans Tablet Flood To Battle iPad 5, iPad mini 2 Release Date

There are plenty of rumors about the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 release date, but Samsung is gearing up to take on Apple with a diverse array of tablets. On Monday, it officially unveiled the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3, and now comes word that the South Korean giant is hard at work on Google's Nexus 11 tablet.

Although the new 11-inch tablet still needs final approval from Google, if we're to believe the leaked information, the Nexus 11 looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty stacked piece of hardware.

According to Sammobile, that 11-inch display will be powered by a Super PLS TFT display and will be the world's first eight-core processor. Specifically, the site said the Nexus 11 will feature the Exynos 5410 Octa-Core A15 / A7 chip. It'll also have an 8-megapixel camera, presumably on the back, while the front-facing camera will clock in at 2-megapixels. MicroSD card expansion also wouldn't be much of a surprise.

Interestingly, though, Sammobile also lists specs for three other Samsung tablets in the works: the Galaxy Tab DUOS 7.0, the Galaxy Tab 8.0, and the Galaxy Tab 11. The Tab 11 is expected to sport the same screen and camera power as the Nexus 11, though it might only feature a dual-core processor.

Clearly, Samsung is preparing to flood the market with a wide variety of tablets to take on the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. It's unlikely any single device can go toe-to-toe with the iPad brand in terms of sales, but combined they offer consumers multiple choices, and give Samsung multiple opportunities to reel in a new user.

With the Galaxy Note 8 released in April and the Galaxy Tab 3 scheduled for a May launch, that will mark two months in a row in which Samsung releases a new tablet. If the Nexus 11 is unveiled at Google's I/O Conference in May as well, we could witness a brand new wave of Android devices hitting the market. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is also shelves the same month. If these devices take off, it'll put extra pressure on Apple to hit the ball out of the park with the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2.

Here's the (short) spec list from Sammobile:

NEXUS 11*
- 11" Super PLS TFT
- 8 Megapixel
- 2 Megapixel
- Octa-Core A15 / A7 (Exynos 5410)
- Micro SD 64 GB (Rumoured)
* Needs to get [approval] from Google (Worlds first Octa-Core tablet)
