Halo Wars 2 is coming out on Feb. 21. Here are some pointers on how to devise your own winning strategy against your opponents.
General Combat Strategy
Generally, Infantry can defeat Air forces but ground vehicles are vulnerable to Air units. At the same time, Infantry is normally weak against ground vehicles. Halo Wars 2 though has added Counter-Units to the mix. These special groups can actually dish out a lot of damage to a specific unit. For example, the Banished Reaver is a ground vehicle that's very effective against Air forces. Since they are ground vehicles, the Reavers are still vulnerable to Air units which means they should be escorted by Infantry. Players should not concentrate in solely creating a specific type unit. Each best combat team should have every type of unit so that they can protect and complement each other.
Do Not Waste Units
Halo Wars 2 rewards units who manage to survive every encounter with Veterancy XP. The veteran units can inflict more damage while getting less damage in return. Keeping these experienced units alive could prove difficult especially in the heat of combat. One way to deploy units efficiently is to gauge their effectiveness against specific enemies. Fortunately, the game assigned some color coding to determine the chances of victory.
A green color normally means an easy victory against the enemy. This is not true though all the time. The enemy unit's special ability if any is not considered as a factor. Players should also avoid fighting the enemy unit if the color is red. A gray color on the other hand means that the unit is not equipped to engage the opponent. In some cases, upgrading the unit can change their effectiveness against the enemy. Upgrades can also give units special abilities.
Leaders Can Turn The Tide
Halo Wars 2 requires Leader Points in order to get Leader Powers. Winning battles, building and collecting enough resources plus research can enable players to get the needed Leader points.
