Xbox 720 To Have $15 Per Month Subscription (Rumor)

Microsoft seems to be on track to officially reveal the Xbox 720 at its May 21 event in Redmond, Wash. Previously, technology blogger Paul Thurott said that one of the upcoming Xbox models will be priced at $299 with a subscription for $10 a month, but now Thurrot says that the subscription fee will be $15 per month.

Thurott predicted that the Xbox will appear on May 21 and will have two different prices. Microsoft will introduce one standalone model that will cost $499 while another model will have a price tag of $299 with a two-year Xbox Live Gold subscription for $10 a month.

"By the way, I did screw up one thing: The $299 version of Xbox v. Next will come with a $15/mo XBLG subscription, not $10. Sorry about that," now tweets Paul Thurott.

Rumors suggest that the subscription model of the upcoming Xbox 720 will allow all members of the family to create Xbox Live Gold accounts, engage in multiplayer matches and get access to extra content.

Microsoft will reveal the Xbox 720 on May 21 but it's very unlikely that the company will reveal full information on pricing, especially given the fact that Sony is not talking about how much the PlayStation 4 (PS4) will cost.

Thurrot also says that Microsoft originally planned to offer both a "full" version of the next Xbox (with video game-playing capabilities) and a lower-end entertainment-oriented version, which is code-named "Yuma," that didn't provide gaming capabilities. However, Microsoft is holding onto the plans for Yuma and a full entertainment version of the gaming console will not appear soon.

Gamers want to know if both Xbox 720 and the PS4 will make their appearances in the same year. Gamers can lay hands on the PS4 at the GameStop Expo in August this year, but there is no word as to when the Xbox 720 will be available to millions of fans.
