Michael Caine, who played Alfred in the Dark Knight trilogy, has been confirmed for the cast of Christopher Nolan's next project, titled Interstellar. This would mark Caine's sixth collaboration with Christopher Nolan, who has directed the actor In all three of the Dark Knight films, The Prestige as well as Inception.
Caine is the third confirmed casting for Interstellar. Earlier this month, we received news that Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain would be joining the projected as well and Matthew McConaughey has been attached to star for some time now.
Both actors are adding to an already busy schedule. Chastain is currently working on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and is also confirmed to be playing the lead role in Liv Ullman's adaptation of August Strindberg's "Miss Julie." Chastain will also have a role in Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak." Caine meanwhile is co-starring in Now You See Me alongside Mark Ruffalo and Morgan Freeman, as well as Mr. Morgan's Last Love, which stars Gillian Anderson. He'll also be appearing in an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's short story, Eliza Graves, starring Ben Kingsley and Kate Beckinsale.
We know next to nothing about the plot to Interstellar so far. Initial press releases have described the story as "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding." The Interstellar release date is set for Nov. 7, 2014, so it'll probably be awhile before Nolan et al. confirm anything more.
Nolan has stated before that the film is based on the theories of Kip Thorne and the project retains the physicist as a creative consultant, along with a team of scientists from Caltech. Originally, Steven Spielberg was attached to direct, and he described the project as a realistic depiction of a journey into another dimension.
