Many fans are in an outrage after the latest Paladins update that seemingly makes the first-person shooter a pay-to-win game. However, Hi-Rez has supposedly listened to their fans and is already beginning trying to balance some mechanics.
Paladins Patch Has Fans in an Outrage
According to PC Gamer, many fans of Hi-Rez's team shooter have taken to social media to express their frustrations over the latest patch. The new update supposedly brought in what seems to be a 'pay-to-win' mechanic as well as a new currency called 'Essence.' To begin with, fans can now buy Radiant chests for 300 gold that players can farm for in-game.
Now, players will be rewarded for Essence instead of gold whenever they get any duplicate items. In turn, the new currency can be used to unlock high-end cards which provide some powerful abilities. Previously, players would not need to grind much to get the proper loadout they need for their characters.
However, the new legendary cards are extremely expensive and require 36,000 Essence to unlock the set for one character. With this in mind, players will need to collect 756,000 Essence to unlock all of the legendary cards for the entire cast. The problem is that fans will only receive 60 Essence for every duplicate common card.
Hi-Rez Working on Balance Changes
With this in mind, players will have to shell out real money if they want to 'be ahead' in the game. Luckily, Hi-Rez has already acknowledged the feedback from fans and is working on fixing the Essence system, as per another PC Gamer report. Firstly, the legendary cards will now cost 12,000 instead of the original 18,000. On the other hand, players will earn more Essence earned from common card duplicates from 60 to 250.
Hi-Rez still seems to be finding a way to balance the ongoing issue. For now, fans can try to save up as much Essence as possible to unlock the various legendary cards. Fans can play Paladins for free on the PC.
