Paladins Season 1 Update: Fans Raged Over Pay-to-Win Essence System

Hi-Rez Studios introduced Open Beta 44 patch for their multiplayer first-person shooter Paladins last week. Apparently, it went live after several days of testing in the Public Test Server. However, it seems like several players are not pleased with the newly-implemented Essence System in the game. As a result, the company has received tons of negative feedback lately.

According to the Twinfinite, fans are upset with the new Essence System that has been implemented to the game. It is because they felt that the Hi-Rez is slowly giving them a pay-to-play environment. For the sake of those new players and unaware, Paladins originally used the Gold currency to buy Loadout Cards while Crystals for Radiant Chests. However, the current update alters the reward system which now enables players to purchase Radiant Chests with gold.

With the introduction of the new Essence currency, the Radiant Chest will no longer drop gold for duplicates instead it will drop Essence. This new currency will be used to purchase both Loadout and the new Legendary Cards. Apparently, several players felt that it is unfair for those who don't own a Founder's Pack. In addition, it will also hard for new players of the game to acquire their desired cards since it will require a high amount of Essence.

Meanwhile, Hi-Rez updated the contents of the Founder's Pack adding a free 72,000 Essence. It can be purchased for $19.99. With the current system, purchasing a Founder's Pack is more efficient to save more time and in-game resources.

On the other hand, Hi-Rez Studios responded to the massive feedbacks from the players and release an update which adjusts the reward system including Essence drop. Apparently, the company stated that the inclusion of Essence and Legendary Cards to the game are positive additions despite the negative feedback they received. Also, only time can tell whether players are ready for the change or just quit the game.
