MWC 2017: Sony Xperia XZ Premium Launches Under The Radar; Offers Snapdragon 835, 5.5-Inch 4K Display

While members of the press have been busy covering the launch of Nokia 3310, LG G6 and Huawei P10, another notable but ever so silent unveiling was from Sony with its Xperia XZ Premium. The device touts a 5.5-inch 4K display with Snapdragon 835, along with other Sony staple features.

More About Sony Xperia XZ Premium's Display

According to The Verge, Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a 2,160 x 3,840 HDR display, which is entirely compatible with Sony TVs and other smart devices. The new HDR display for the upcoming handset is a product of Sony and Amazon, which offers a perfect color reproduction. This was further attested by a demo that showed a better reproduction of a street in Lisbon, contrasting that of the Xperia Z5's.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium: World's First Motion Eye Camera

The new Xperia XZ Premium also introduces a new camera system, "Motion Eye." It is capable of recording videos in super-slow motion, 960 frames per second at 720-pixel resolution. It also offers Predictive Capture, Predictive Hybrid Autofocus and a SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode.

Accordingly, the Xperia XZ Premium will be the world's first Super slow motion video capable smartphone, which offers a rapid burst for 0.18 seconds and captures up to 180 frames. It will have a 19-megapixel back camera and a 13-megapixel front camera.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium: Other Offers

According to BGR, the smartphone is also water and dust resistant, a staple feature among other Sony Xperia devices. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and rear. It is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor, which is an unlikely news as it has been reported that Samsung S8 called the dibs on this specific chipset. Among other recent Xperia features from previous devices that reappear on XZ Premium are the fingerprint sensor and a couple of energy saving technologies.

Xperia XZ Premium is powered by a 3230 mAh battery, which comes with USB 3.1 connection along with a USB Type-C socket for charging. It features Qnavo Adaptive Charging, Smart Stamina and Battery Care. It has 4GB RAM with 64GB Universal Flash Storage, which can be extended up to 265 GB via microSD card.

Sony highlights that the Xperia XZ Premium will be available in two colors, the Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black. No specific date of when it will be available was reported but Sony did say that the Xperia XZ Premium should arrive in late spring of 2017.
