Square Enix will be releasing another character for Dissidia Final Fantasy for arcades. They have shared the release date but no hints to who it may be.
According to Niche Gamer, Square Enix has shared the release date to when they will announce a new character for their arcade fighting game. The official announcement will take place during a Niconico live stream on March 7 at 21:00 in Japan. While it is still unsure who they plan to release, fans should expect some new gameplay as well as an introduction video for the upcoming fighter.
That aside, the studio has yet to reveal any new information regarding a potential console release. However, Kotaku reports that they have some ideas they would like to implement for a possible future release. Game producer, Ichiro Hazama, and Director, Takeo Kujiraoka, revealed some of the things they would like to include.
In line with this, Hazama claimed that they are already working on a possible plot for a console version. On the other hand, they are also looking into the competitive e-Sports gaming scene for the title. Kujiraoka stated that if they can manage to deliver the title as a "high-proficiency competitive fighting tool," it might establish itself as a global tournament in the future.
Square Enix has actually been working on the idea of trying to establish a specific title in the e-Sports scene. Recently, they released Flame x Blaze which is an MOBA-esque game similar to that of League of Legends or Dota 2. However, it is worth noting that the said title is only limited to mobile devices until other proper e-Sports games.
Only time will tell if Square Enix will plan to pursue the competitive scene in gaming and if Dissidia Final Fantasy will be the official platform they plan to use. As of now, the company still seems to be busy trying to introduce the main cast of the game. Until then, fans will have to wait for further information regarding a possible console port.
