Square Enix Weighs In 'On Before Crisis', 'Crisis Core', And 'Dirge of Cerberus HD' Compilation

Square Enix has been rather fond of remastering or even remaking their previous titles and bringing them to the modern era. Similarly, most of their original games have either gotten a mobile upgrade while others have gotten an HD port. In line with this, the studio weighs in on remastering three installments from the Final Fantasy VII compilation.

Most Final Fantasy games have become timeless classics in the video game industry for their rich storytelling and unique characters. With this in mind, it seems only fitting enough that fans continue to request for remakes and remasters of their favorite title. Square Enix, on the other hand, has been delivering various remasters and even an upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PlayStation 4.

Game director Tetsuya Nomura Shares His Thoughts on a Final Fantasy VII Compilation

Incidentally, Siliconera reports an interview with game director Tetsuya Nomura and his stance on a potential Final Fantasy VII compilation (which would comprise of Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus). To begin with, he claimed that it would be difficult to compile the entire games together because there would be no sense of coherence with the overall plot. Furthermore, Nomura stated that there would me no continuity between the said compilation and the upcoming PS4 title.

With this in mind, it seems like the game director has plans of altering the plot of the original game. In line with this, Nomura himself confirmed that 'a lot of things will change' regarding the remake. However, he did not specifically state the new things he has in mind.

Fans are already aware of the new combat system which became quite an issue in the past. Fans were torn between the traditional turn-based combat which is a staple for roleplaying games while others wanted the more streamlined action controls similar to Final Fantasy XV. In spite of this, it seems like Square Enix is aiming to try and appease both fans while continuously moving forward.

Potential Changes in the Final Fantasy VII Remake?

While fans may worry about unexpected or uncalled changes, Just Push Start reports that the 'essence of the universe' will not change. In fact, he added that this is one of the things that will 'remain intact' from the main game. He could be trying to suggest that the overall theme of the game will still remain intact as Sephiroth might still be hunting for the Black Materia to destroy the planet. If so, then there is also a good chance the Lifestream, the spirit, and lifeblood of the planet, will still be in the remake as well.

Even so, this still raises the question regarding the various characterizations in the plot. Since a complication would no longer be coherent with the remake, how will this affect Zack Fair's part in the overall universe? Moreover, would this also hint that Square Enix is planning a different route for Aerith in regards to her tragic accident?

With this in mind, it seems like Nomura wants players to continue speculation over the upcoming games. The company has yet to share any new details regarding the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake as of now. Fans will just have to wait for more information regarding the compilation and how it would not tie in with the highly-anticipated PS4 game.
