There were no introductions or explanations about where they came from. However, there are recent "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" spoilers that might explain their mysterious origins.

Their Origin Might Have Been Revealed In Some "Star Wars" Books

Some inquisitive and enterprising fans of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" might have found some clues about where the Knights of Ren came from. They say that it may have been revealed already in a series of "Star Wars" related books. Fans would recall that these Knights briefly appeared in Rey's vision when she picked up Luke's lightsaber.

"Aftermath" Might Have Revealed Their Origin

Furthermore, these fans of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" believe that the Knights of Ren could have a connection with the Acolytes of the Beyond. This latter group is featured in the new book "Aftermath," a post-"Return of the Jedi" trilogy. It tells about the war between the remnants of the Empire and the New Republic. The title of the last book in this trilogy is "Aftermath: Empire's End."

The Acolytes Of The Beyond Might Be Their Progenitors

The Acolytes are led by Yupe Tashu, the former advisor of the Emperor. One of his objectives is to find the lightsaber of Darth Vader. Fans of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" suggest that as they were retrieving Sith artifacts, they saw visions of the ancient Sith lords and the dark side. Members of this group also love to wear masks just like Kylo Ren and Darth Vader. Did the Acolytes spawn the Knights of Ren?

J.J. Abrams Said Hamill Should Win An Oscar For His Work In "The Last Jedi"

In a related note, J.J. Abrams, the director of episode 7 is predicting that Mark Hamill might win the Oscar for his role in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." Abrams, who is also the Executive Producer of episode 8 has all praises to the actor. In his Oscar Wilde Awards speech, he said that Mark Hamill deserves to win an Oscar for his work in episode 8. He added that they will be disappointed if he wouldn't.
