There are some juicy new details out on the so-called X Phone, but don't get used to that name if the new rumors are true. The new details focus on the upcoming smartphone's specs and features, and that there will supposedly be two models of the smartphone.
According to a source, the Google or Motorola "X Phone" we've been hearing about so much will officially be called the Motorola X, and the second smartphone will be called the Motorola X M. The ROM info on the smartphones lists "X" as device type, which, if true, would make the smartphones Motorola-branded, not Google branded, as previously rumored.
Motorola already has a high-end smartphone line that also includes a more affordable model and it also adds the "M" moniker to differentiate. The Motorola DROID RAZR M is Motorola's budget-friendly RAZR smartphone, so Motorola could be following a similar naming convention.
Hot Hardware.com claims the Motorola X will feature a 4.8-inch, 1280 x 720 HD display, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.2.2. It was rumored the smartphone might ship with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie or an updated version of Android 4.X. The processor has already been leaked on an AnTuTu benchmark that reported the smartphone as having a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and also reported the smartphone to be running Android 5.0.1. It would make sense for this smartphone to be running Android 4.2.2 and not the next major version of Android, 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
The second smartphone will be a smaller smartphone, and this could be one of the smaller smartphones that Google spoke about recently. The Motorola X M will likely follow the similar budget-friendly price and features found on the DROID RAZR M.
The latest feature these new smartphones will have is called "Droid Blast," as seen in the screenshot here. This new feature will allow you to "instantly send photos or videos to friends near you with a simple gesture." The setup screen shows gesture sharing, account sharing, network settings and the ability to assign a gesture to Droid Blast.
There's no word on when we can expect the Motorola X and Motorola X M, but it's a possibility the smartphones might make an appearance this month at Google I/O.
