Legenday Films released 2 official trailers for the upcoming sci-fi movie Pacific Rim, which features massive robots going toe-to-toe against giant monsters. Set to release this summer, Pacific Rim is directed by Guillermo del Toro. As a movie tie-in, a companion comic book will be released before the movie hits theaters.
The comic serves as a prequel to the highly anticipated movie and is called Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero. Set for a release date of June 5, the action-packed graphic novel features most of the characters from the movie. Travis Beacham, screenwriter for Pacific Rim also wrote the comic book with guidance from director del Toro. The comic book's Illustrators include Sean Chen, Yvel Guichet, and Pericles Junior; inks by Steve Bird and Mark McKenna.
"When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end," the synopsis reads.
To get the buzz going before the release date, Legendary Films is rolling out Pacific Rim posters and banners. The latest banner features new character images of Idris Elba as PPDC Marshal Stacker Pentecost, and Rinko Kikuchi as pilot Mako Mori. Pacific Rim also stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff.
As the LA Times reported, del Toro showed up at the Hero Complex Festival Saturday where he shared the trailer for Pacific Rim. The sci-fi movie has a release date of July 12 and falls right in line with some other upcoming movie releases. Movies such as Star Trek Into Darkness and After Earth also reference outer-space, aliens and near-future worlds. The inspiration behind Pacific Rim came from del Toro's fascination with Japanese pop culture when he was a kid. He talked about being into manga series comics such as "Astro Boy" and how he would often sketch giant robots. He also watched films from Toho, the Japanese production company and makers ofGodzilla.
